National Feiertag in Wincrange
Luxemburg

The country Luxemburg held on the 22th of June their National Holiday.
Our foundation was asked to look for a folklore group to join this National Holiday. About 17 groups would like to participate. The local organisation asked for the group Maroesjka from the place Heeze in the Netherlands for a three day stay in Luxemburg.

The ensemble was received in a Gîte d’étape in the place Hoffelt near Wincrange. The ensemble stayed in this guest building of the municipality. In the Barteshaus near the Gîte the district council invited the group for a dinner.
Major Mr. Marcel Thommes gave information of the municipality, what exists of about 27 towns and is located in the “Luxemburgs plateau”, in the north-west region of Luxemburg. The region is known about their seed-potatoes and the much kept grazing cattle’s.

Monday morning the group made a excursion in the lead of Mr. Jeff Engelen, the head of the local office for tourism. He told much about the attempts to build a canal through the municipality in the early 1800. After they visited the known “Helzinger Schnitzaltar” and the multi purpose building (school / sports/ cultural centre) of the municipality of Wincrange.

In the evening after the “Te Deum” the Dutch folklore dancing ensemble Maroesjka of Heeze was ask to perform on a beautiful stage, taking turn with a local youth modern dancing group

After the performance the major, Mr. Marcel Thommes, appreciated the performance of the Dutch ensemble. This group enlightened because of their several musicians and the different traditional costumes.

Mr. Pierre Neser, the deputy major of the region Wincrange would like to ask again, in the future, the help of our foundation, but then for organising a folklore festival in Luxemburg.
